The local election season is over and Christmas is coming! Congratulations to all of our successful local candidates! I must admit it is quite nice to see all the election signs come down, and now the results are in we can get on with the business of working with all of our Local Board members and our Councillor. One Mahurangi had our AGM last week and we had a great turnout with six new members coming on board to join the committee. I thank all those that attended with a special thanks to the new committee members and to those existing members for once again putting their hands up to serve this community. Someone asked me the other day if I had started my Christmas shopping! This an outrageous question as I’m not that well organised. However, I know that some of you are thinking ahead and so to let you know, Warkworth will be holding two late shopping nights on the 15th & 22nd of December. We will be encouraging shops to stay open until 7 pm to allow those extra hours of shopping for busy customers. Please think seriously before you drive into Auckland to do your Christmas shopping as it is important to keep as much money in our local area as possible. I know I say it often, but it is the small local businesses that are the ones who support your children’s sports and other clubs and they deserve your support. Shop local, love local again this Christmas. The Santa Parade will be back on the 4th of December starting at 11 am and finishing up on the wharf for prize giving. We would love to see lots of floats in the parade as it is a great way to show off your business and at the same time a chance for staff and children to be a part of something special. Get in touch with me to see how you can be involved. We will be taking Santa out on his Sleigh around Warkworth on the 6th of December and Snell’s Beach, Matakana, and Point Wells on the 7th of December. This will be during the early evening and Santa will be led through by the Town Cryer in a Sports Car ringing his bell. Looking ahead into the new year, I am putting together a Family Day down on the wharf on the 15th of January from 10 am to 6 pm with rides, amusements, and food trucks so keep an eye out for details about this event as it develops. The build-up to Christmas and the end of the year can be quite a busy and often stressful time so remember to be kind to yourself and gentle with others. If we all work together it can be a great time for everyone, after all, we are stronger together.
