Where does the funding come from? I am often asked how One Mahurangi exists and then how and where we get the funding from. These are worthwhile questions for people who see the business association involved in a lot of work around town. How do we have the capacity to continue to provide business support and advocacy for local interests? The simple answer is there are three main revenue streams for One Mahurangi: 1. Targeted BID rate. We are part of an Auckland Council established BID (Business Improvement District). One Mahurangi is one of 64 BID areas around Auckland. Each owner of a commercial property within the BID area has a targeted rate per property and that rate comes back to the business association through the Auckland Council BID grant to fund our work. Here in the One Mahurangi BID area, we have the lowest possible rate at $500 per commercial property within the BID. You can read more about the One Mahurangi BID history, including a BID area map and links to the Auckland Council BID policy, on our website here > onemahurangi.co.nz/about-one-mahurangi/warkworthbid/ 2. Sponsorship. Currently, One Mahurangi Business Association has 26 leading Warkworth businesses that generously provide contributions that enable us to do the work we do to support and strengthen local business. Without our sponsor’s support, we would struggle to provide the strong, local voice that advocates for Mahurangi businesses around issues such as roading and infrastructure. One Mahurangi continues to work with Auckland Transport, Watercare, Waka Kotahi, and Auckland Council to make sure local projects are designed with the best interests of our area in mind. One Mahurangi appreciates the ongoing support of our sponsors and their commitment to strengthening the local economy. Please make sure you support them wherever possible. Learn more about our sponsors on our website here > onemahurangi.co.nz/one-mahurangi-our-sponsors/ 3. Associate Membership: BID Affiliate Membership is free for businesses within the BID area due to BID Policy. However, for businesses who still want to enjoy the benefits of One Mahurangi Membership who are outside the BID area, Associate Membership is possible for an annual rate of $240. Experience has shown that as a business community, we are stronger together and we warmly invite businesses within the wider Mahurangi area to join the business association. Visit our website for more information about membership here > onemahurangi.co.nz/join-one-mahurangi/ While I look with envy at the bigger budgets available to other BID areas around Auckland, it is widely recognised that One Mahurangi punches well above our weight. Given the funding pool that we draw from compared to other BIDs, Managers of other BID areas are often in awe of what we are able to achieve. (Be sure to read our Marketview monthly report below for comparisons) One Mahurangi manages to do what we do with the help of our amazing community working together. A great example of how well this community works together was the recent Pink Ribbon Brunch organised and hosted by both the Warkworth Library and the Warkworth Town Hall. An amazing and heartfelt event that brought people together for a cause that touches the lives of many in our community. Well done and thank you to all involved and to all who showed up to support. We are a caring and supportive community and, as always, we are much stronger together. |
