11th May 2023 Update | Business support information and promotional opportunities

It’s never boring, is it?!

I have just come back from my second bout of Covid and, just like the first time, it really knocked me around. I am very envious of those lucky people who only get the mild version of this nasty bug. The ongoing consequence of recovery from Covid for me at the moment is extreme tiredness – so if you see me moving slowly along the street that is the reason, it’s not age!

I understand firsthand how difficult it is for many of our businesses as they cope with staff shortages caused by disruptions like Covid and other seasonal bugs. As we have often said before, the best thing we can do as customers is to be patient and kind. Businesses, both small and large, are doing what they can to meet deadlines and complete orders during ongoing staff shortages and supply-chain disruptions. Patience and grace with each other can help ease the pressure.

As I write this intro to the newsletter, I am sitting in my office in the Warkworth Information Centre. I am looking out and the sun is shining while just a few moments ago it was dark and the rain was bucketing down. It does make it hard to know what clothes to wear – unpredictability and sudden change make planning something as ordinary clothing choices a challenge. There seems to be an ongoing theme in this season doesn’t there? At least we can say it is never boring!

As we have just come through yet another weather event, our community venues were once again opened for people who were stranded and in need. Again the quick and charitable reply from the local community reinforces to me that this town is full of amazing people. We have our emergency response people who spring into action, but we also have all those locals who suddenly appear with blankets, mattresses, and food. Everyone just gets stuck in without even being asked.

And let’s not forget our local contractors who, once again, worked tirelessly through appalling conditions to get the roads cleared overnight and a safe passage through for the community. A massive thank you to Rhodes for RoadsMason ContractorsWharehine, and the multitude of busy, local subcontractors. The work these companies do is often unseen as we shelter in our dry homes, but it is certainly evident and appreciated by all of us living in the area!

Thanks again to everyone who shows up to play their part in helping this community succeed. I will never stop saying it, we are stronger together.
