What Is a BID?
A Business Improvement District (BID) is a partnership between local businesses, property owners, and the Auckland Council that works collectively to strengthen the local economy and create a vibrant business community.
BIDs are funded by a targeted rate collected by Auckland Council from all business-rated properties within the defined area. The full amount is granted to the local business association, such as One Mahurangi, Warkworth, to deliver initiatives that benefit every business in the district, not just individual members.
About One Mahurangi, Warkworth
One Mahurangi, Warkworth Business Association represents more than 400 businesses across Warkworth and the wider Mahurangi region.
We advocate for local enterprise, coordinate community events, promote shopping locally, and strengthen connections between businesses, residents, and visitors.
Our goal is simple: to help Warkworth thrive as a place to live, work, and do business.
Our BID Journey
One Mahurangi became an official Business Improvement District in 2020 following a successful ballot of local business and property owners.
The BID model formalised the collaborative approach that had already been driving our association, connecting, promoting, and advocating for Warkworth’s business community.
A Brief Timeline
- 2015: Warkworth Area Business Association rebrands as One Warkworth
- 2019: BID proposal and consultation process begins
- 2020: BID ballot successfully passed by local businesses
- 2020: One Warkworth rebrands to One Mahurangi
- 2021 to present: Operating as a registered BID under Auckland Council’s BID Policy
Since then, One Mahurangi, Warkworth has continued to deliver initiatives that strengthen the local economy and enhance the town centre experience, including business advocacy, business support workshops, and community events such as the Warkworth Santa Parade.
How the BID Works
The Warkworth BID is funded through a targeted rate applied to all business-rated properties within the BID boundary. (See map below)
Auckland Council collects this rate on behalf of One Mahurangi and returns 100 percent of the funds to the association.
These funds enable One Mahurangi to:
- Promote and support local businesses
- Deliver marketing and events that bring people into town
- Advocate on behalf of members with Auckland Council and other agencies
- Improve Warkworth’s business environment and infrastructure
In short, every dollar collected through the BID helps make Warkworth a better place to do business.

Governance and Accountability
One Mahurangi operates under the Auckland Council BID Policy (2025), which outlines how all BIDs across the region must be managed and held accountable.
Our committee and management team ensure that funds are used transparently and strategically to deliver the greatest benefit for all BID members.

Get Involved
If your business or property is located within the Warkworth BID area, you qualify as a BID affiliate member of One Mahurangi. To become a full member with voting rights and access to all membership benefits, simply register with us. There is no fee for BID affiliates.
Businesses located outside the BID boundary can also join as Associate Members. For an annual subscription of $240 (incl. GST), Associate Members enjoy the same opportunities to connect, promote their business, and participate in One Mahurangi activities. This membership ensures that businesses across the wider Mahurangi region can stay involved and benefit from the collective strength of our local business network.
