7th April 2022 – What a wonderful place we live in!

What a wonderful place we live in!

I thought for a change I wouldn’t mention Covid or lockdowns because apart from us all being over it, my focus again has been on what a great area Mahurangi is to live in. Lately, I have been reminded of the generous and thoughtful community spirit we have in this place. At One Mahurangi we have been organising the upcoming Emergency Services Dinner for the 11th of May. This community event will give us the opportunity to show our gratitude for all the efforts and service of our local heroes.

When we first advertised that this was going to happen, I received two phone calls within the first day. The first one was from Carlton Party Hire saying, “Whatever you need let me know and it’s yours.”  The second call was from Mahurangi River Wines offering to supply all the wine for the event! Since then, Heron’s Flight and Runner Duck Estate have also offered to supply wine for the evening.

And still, we have had local business after local business step forward to donate money, products, and services. Breweries like 8 Wired and Sawmill have come on board, and both our local supermarkets, Countdown and New World are offering help.

Local cafés are supplying us with salads and cakes, we have oysters, canapes, ice cream, and much more from local restaurants and eateries… the contributions keep coming in! I have had Aldo from our famous Aldo’s Italian restaurant put up his hand and say, “I will be there on the night and will look after the kitchen” as well as supplying a large dessert.

So far, we have over thirty locals who have put up their hands to help set up, serve, and clean up on the night! What all this says to me is that our Emergency Services are held in very high regard and that people want to show their appreciation. If you are keen to get involved in the evening, it’s not too late. Our contact details are below. We would love to have your participation and support so get in touch.

You will see below in this newsletter a link to a virtual Thank You card. We want to invite you to sign this card so that on the night we can share your thank you messages with our Emergency Services heroes. We would love to get as many messages as possible so feel free to share the link as far and wide as possible. Click the link, and write a message. It’s just that simple. I am very proud to be a part of a community that, like the rest of the country, has suffered over the last couple of years but still has that generosity of spirit to want to give back to a group of local heroes. This really is a community that is Stronger Together.
