6th July 2023 UPDATE | Winter Festival info, Consumer Spending reports, Center Plan feedback, and more!

Light up your life and the town!

It’s just over a week before the 2023 Mahurangi Winter Festival of Lights happens in Warkworth and this is a chance for your business in town to light up and be seen by the visiting crowds.

Lights attract people, they make people smile and they make people feel good – and if they feel good about something your business has done then perhaps, they are more likely to buy something from you.

I have always believed that the simple act of putting lights up in and around your shop or business during the Winter Festival shows customers that you are a business that is a part of our community. This is a festival designed to not only bring joy to local families but to also bring visitors into our town and area during the school holidays.

The business that is judged to have the best lights display will win a $500 voucher generously donated by Mitre 10 Mega Warkworth. On top of this incentive, we are encouraging the public to come into town at night to look at the shop lights, take photos of the business lights they like and share them on the Mahurangi Winter Festival of Lights Facebook Page. Business lighting photos shared on Facebook will enter the person posting the photo in a chance to win a dinner for four people at the Warkworth Hotel! (Generously donated by the Warkworth Hotel) Let’s get every business in town lit up!

See you all on Saturday the 15th of July in town for another awesome Mahurangi Winter Festival of Lights, a Warkworth community event that promotes our town and our local businesses and encourages visitors to return again and again.

End Note: While the opening of the new motorway is an exciting development that will have ongoing future benefits to our local community, some local businesses, particularly those now off the main thoroughfare, are experiencing a significant dip in business. While this was not unexpected, it is still hard. Please remember to support these businesses by shopping and spending local where you can. As the town develops and the local economy continues to grow, we all need to do our bit to bring everyone with us. We are Stronger Together so let’s put our money where are hearts are and support local!
