We’re deep in the middle of winter, and scraping the ice off the windscreen certainly reminds us of that. It’s the time of year when it’s tempting to stay indoors, but that has a knock-on effect for local businesses. So if you’re meeting a client or catching up with a mate, do it at one of our many great local cafés or eateries; it really does make a difference. At One Mahurangi, we’re also keeping busy with the things many of you told us you wanted more of – networking and business support events. Coming up on 31st July is the opening night of Art in August – a celebration of Mahurngi College Art Students, local and South Island artists. We’re proud to be hosting the evening, and this year there’s an added bonus: Sharon Zollner, Chief Economist at ANZ, will be giving a short and informal presentation on the current state of the economy. We’re also supporting a business development workshop on 12 August – Building Business Resilience – led by Dale Carnegie. This one’s well worth attending, and there’s funding available to help with the cost, so get in touch if you’d like to know more. And finally, something close to home. Local support agency Homebuilders Family Services, Rodney has had its funding cut, which is putting pressure on their ability to help the families who rely on them. We’ve joined others in lobbying the Government to reverse the decision, but so far with no luck. So we’re taking practical action. On 9 August, we’re hosting the Warkworth Comedy Gala. A night of top-class stand-up comedy at the Town Hall. All proceeds will go to Homebuilders. It’s supported by LJ Hooker and Mitre 10 Warkworth, and includes finger food, a cash bar, and plenty of laughs – all for a great cause. Bring your team along. It’ll be a great night out and a good reason to get together. So yes, it’s cold. But we’re still making things happen – and you can too. Support these events, come into town, shop local, and back your community. |
