A Festive Farewell to 2023
As the year draws to a close, this marks my final newsletter for 2023 as I embark on an extended holiday abroad. Rest assured, I will return rejuvenated and ready to dive into 2024 with enthusiasm.
Reflecting on the past year, it’s been a whirlwind of activity despite its challenges. Health issues may have altered some plans, creating a bit of pressure, but overall, the journey has been immensely rewarding.
Before we fully wind down for the year, there’s an exciting event to look forward to—the Warkworth Santa Parade on December 3rd, generously sponsored by Harcourts Cooper & Co and Warkworth Toyota. Organizing this popular event, alongside two friends and a dedicated group of volunteers, has been a joy. We’re still on the lookout for more hands to join us in planning the 2024 parade—it promises to be a lot of fun!
This year, thanks to Harcourts Cooper & Co, we have a unique attraction—a sizable Cubby House measuring 140.5cm high X 191cm wide, to be auctioned during the Prize Giving at the wharf after the Santa Parade. It’s truly amazing, and your participation in the auction will contribute to the festive spirit.
Registrations for Santa Parade floats are still open, providing an excellent opportunity to showcase your business and community spirit. Additionally, we need a few more Road Marshalls to ensure the safety of families during the parade—an easy commitment from 10:15 am to 1:00 pm. Email me, murray@onemahurangi.co.nz
Looking back at the highlights of 2023, the Mahurangi Winter Festival of Lights stood out as a massive success, with plans already underway for an even grander event on July 6th, 2024. The Kowhai Festival, albeit smaller this year, was a gratifying return after a three-year hiatus, thanks to the commitment of our dedicated committee members.
The permanent lighting art installation along the Mahurangi River, a culmination of efforts since 2018, has become a town attraction. While there’s still work to be done, the support from the community has been invaluable.
Personally, engaging in positive and, at times, challenging conversations with many of you has been a true highlight for me this year. I’m grateful for the unwavering support of the One Mahurangi team, including our operation team, Information Centre staff, OMBA Co-Chairs, and the entire OMBA committee.
None of our achievements would be possible without the incredible support of our generous sponsors. To all of you, I extend my heartfelt gratitude.
As the holiday season approaches, I want to wish each of you a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with joy and prosperity. I look forward to reconnecting with as many of you as possible in the coming year.
